Shoot With Me: Vail, Colorado

Amidst the craziness of a global pandemic, a recent engagement and pursuing freelance work more seriously, this trip to Vail, Colorado was an absolute whirlwind.

Let’s backtrack.

I met Crosby via a summer internship in Florida during my junior year of college. I’m not sure if it was our shared midwestern roots (aka we grew up an hour apart in MN!!), our goofy personalities or this corporate experience, but we hit it off instantly. Funny how things like that happen huh?

Years later, we have kept in touch, calling and Facetiming randomly always catching up on each other’s lives. She even visited us last year in SC (+convinced me to get my ears double-pierced, a huge milestone for this wimp). A few weeks ago I got a text from Crosby asking if I would be willing to travel for some photography. In case you didn’t know, I’m more than willing to travel anywhere at any time, so this really wasn’t even a question.

I packed up my gear and headed out for a quick weekend in Vail, CO. It was a blast shooting senior photos for Alden, Crosby’s adorable younger sister, and spending time in the mountains.

The day I started editing these photos I told Peter we need to move to the mountains (I’m thinking Tennessee) because the vibe is just so me. I am addicted to these colors, views, feels, everything. Can you imagine the type of content I’d be sharing 24/7 if I lived there?! Ahhh. Insane.

Meet Alden

How cute is she?!

We drove around Vail in search of scenery that was representative of Alden’s personality and I think we nailed it. A little greenery, some mountains & peeks of flowers surrounded us throughout the shoot.

Location 1: Riverside

A hidden walking trail in Vail is where we opted to start our shoot. Alden was more than willing to venture into the water and walk through some mud for the sake of this beautiful greenery. P.S. totally obsessed with this outfit, it’s very me.

Location 2: Hiking trail

I knew when we were walking down to the river that we needed to shoot on the nearby pathways after. I loved how to the yellow flowers and warm tones popped against Alden’s outfit + I knew yellow was her fav color, so it was cool to incorporate that into the shoot!

Location 3: The side of the road

Really though. We pulled over on the side of the road, did a good ole’ fashioned in-car change and started shooting. It’s crazy that even the roads in Colorado are pretty.

This shoot was such an incredible experience to challenge my creativity, give me new perspective and enjoy a change of scenery. In case you can’t tell, I am beyond thrilled that I was able to go!

A HUGE thank you to the Pennington’s for this opportunity!

Cheers!

Xoxo - Katie

Crosby + Danielle

These two were the real MVP’s. They carried my bag, played tunes & made the shoot extra special!

Thank you both for having my back (no pun intended) and making this a great experience!
