Doing DC: Levain Bakery

* Chef’s Kiss *

It would be wrong, perhaps unholy, for me to miss out on the chance to eat world-renowned cookies when they are freshly baked across the river. I mean if I stood on my rooftop and really opened my senses, I’m sure I could get a whiff of the warm vanilla aroma from miles away.

We ventured to Levain Bakery on its opening day in Georgetown, DC. The line was wrapping down the street full of hungry Washingtonians (myself included). After about 30 minutes in line, we finally had these beautiful hefty delicious cookies in hand.

A very important breakdown of the experience:

Atmosphere: Adorable

They are located right off the main street in Georgetown, which means it’s easy access during your shopping day or visit to the city. The interior is painted with some beautiful murals of area, with lots of space to socially-distance while waiting for your food. Obviously the cookies are their claim to fame, but they also have plenty of other baked goods & even some coffee drinks to wash ‘em down with!

Cookies: INSANE

Cookies ARE my favorite dessert. Hands down. That being said, my standards are pretty high. I don’t like when cookies are too undercooked & mushy, but of course I also don’t want anything too crispy.

Here’s how I would describe the cookies at Levain Bakery: crispy on the outside & chewy gooey on the inside. Imagine a massive ball of dough plopped on a pan & cooked until crispy on the outside. That’s it. What’s left on the inside is something between doughy & cooked.

The size of these cookies is no joke, even for a connoisseur like myself. We were able to savor them for 2 days!

Flavors: simple, but classic

Something I appreciate about this menu is that it is simple, somewhat small actually, but full of flavor. They’ve certainly perfected their offerings. We loved the Cafe con Leche, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip and Double Chocolate Chip.

Price: $4/cookie

Considering most food in DC costs an arm & a leg, I was pleasantly surprised by the price of these puppies! Especially with a plethora of dessert shops in the area, I would say these are a good deal.

Have you tried it? Let me know your fav flavors!

Cheers!
