Doing DC: My favorite coffee shop!
We live in Pentagon City, which is a homey little city in Arlington away from the hustle and bustle of DC. When we first moved here we actually looked at several different cities in Arlington, ultimately deciding on Pentagon City when we saw our perfect little apartment on the market. We absolutely adore living here in our own little serene corner of Virginia.
today I wanted to share with you a little coffee shop that we love and continue to support during quarantine!
Nestled down the street from our apartment is Bread and Water Company, an all-glass little building serving up specialty waffles, bread and coffee. Having a coffee shop near our future apartment was one of the things I was most excited about when Google-mapping our soon-to-be humble abode. Did I mention I never saw it before moving in?!
My first ever experience came one morning when Peter had a busy work-day ahead and I wanted to surprise him with something special, and what better than coffee to ease the stress of a busy day??
The morning glow reflected rainbows on the pastry case full of irish rolls, chocolatey brownies and lemon poppy scones that had me salivating from afar.
Of course my first order was a caramel soy milk latte, which was more of a dessert than a coffee, but hey, I am not mad at it. The flavors were so rich and delicious that I want one right now and it’s 9 PM. Ever since, I’ve branched out and changed my staple order to a cold brew with a splash of soy milk, which is the perfect hint of sweet and coffee in my opinion.
I know that this is a weird time when it’s important to stay home, but it is also important to support small businesses as best we can. I normally try to limit my spending on coffee, but I recently won a $50 Visa gift card at work and have decided to put it towards others (aka coffee).
extra precautions
Ever since the first talk of COVID-19 in DC, they started adding extra levels of precaution. First, few people were allowed in the store, now they have tables at the doorway for you to pick up your drink without stepping foot inside. It makes me happy to see them busy!
I hope that no matter where you are, you can safely support others! It’s very scary how fast everything started happening. Heck, I never expected to be out of a job. But, with that being said, it’s so insanely cool to see people rally around their favorite places like this!
What have you been doing to support locals?
Cheers!
