Books to Read This Fall

For me, reading seems to be on a constant pendulum. Sometimes I can get so lost in a book that I don’t want to do anything else with my spare time, and sometimes the thought of picking up a paperback repulses me. It really depends.

But, with the pool being open and my retinas needing a break from screens, I have found reading to be on a forward momentum. Over the past couple months, I formed a ‘book club’ (loosely coined that term) with my girlfriends and found a new motivation to spend more time with my nose in a book. Plus, I love the rainbow assortment of books I have growing on my bookshelf, it’s very ‘get yourself a girl who is a good time AND reads’ vibes.

I should preface by saying that none of these are self-help books or biographies because to be completely transparent, I just don’t prefer that type of reading, at least during this stage of life. My goal with reading is to get lost in the pages and create a movie in my mind, it’s so much more satisfying.

So, if you are anything like me and prefer fiction, I think you will love these books!

Good reads for this fall

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

A couple on their honeymoon stumbles upon something that changes their lives and leaves them questioning whether to speak out or keep secrets.

Rating: 3.9/5

This book was equal parts exciting and frustrating, constantly making me question the main characters. It was a book that made you think about what you would do if you were presented with their situation, and yet relax because it’s super unlikely that it ever would. In terms of readability, I would say this is something you can throw in your bag and read in a park, not requiring too much focus while also keeping your attention.

The UNhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

When a wedding goes awry, the bride’s sister and groom’s brother opt to take the nonrefundable honeymoon that their siblings aren’t able to enjoy. Of course, these two are sworn enemies, now heading out for two weeks to a luxurious resort where they pray they can get along.

Rating: 3/5

This was another very fast read, which was particularly good for my days at the pool. It was a fun book and certainly not a brain buster by any means, while being witty enough to make me laugh and continue on. I will say it was somewhat predictable, but if you are looking for simple read that makes you laugh I would give this a shot!

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn

A woman stuck inside her house witnesses something through her window that she was never meant to see, leaving her to question what’s real, what’s imagined, and who she can trust.

Rating: 4.8/5

HOLY CRAP. I honestly think this is the best book I’ve read this year. The way the author unveils stories in this thriller is so chilling and captivating that I legitimately didn’t want to stop reading. I will say if you get easily scared, this might not be your bedtime story, but I promise it’s worth a read regardless!

Bonus: they made this into a movie & I can’t wait to see it!!

Other honorable mentions:

I read these last year, but felt like I should throw them in the running in case the others didn’t inspire you.

  • The Other Woman by Sandie Jones

  • The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

Have any book recs for me? Please leave a comment & let me know! I am eager to keep this lifestyle going :)

Cheers!
