The best workout clothes
As LMFAO put it…I Workout.
Over the past year, I have seen a huge change in my workout routine.
At the latter half of 2018 I was very diligent with my workouts, doing 2-a-days, waking up at 5 AM for cycling/barre classes and following up with some more cardio at night (for usually 45-60 min). If I’m being honest, that type of routine was just unhealthy mentally. I think part of the problem was that I had no real structure with my job and lots of time to kill, which led me to the gym.
After moving in with Peter, my routine totally changed.
I started taking a break on the 2-a-days, giving myself more leeway to workout when I felt like it and taking days off when my body needs it. I’m definitely not in the BEST shape of my life, but I’m also not out of shape and that’s all that matters. Now I’m focusing on maintaining muscles and healthy insides, letting the outsides come with time.
All this to say, I have tried nearly all types of workouts - running, barre, cycling, weight training, zumba - you name it, I’ve tried it.
Through all these classes I’ve found that workout gear is just as important as the actual workout. Sounds ridiculous, but you ladies know exactly what I mean about that feeling of looking bomb in an outfit and stepping in the gym to kill a workout. I immediately feel 10x stronger and better for what I’m about to endure.
So after years of testing leggings for saggy-ness, bras for durability and shoes for support, these are tried and true workout items that get the Katie Forsha stamp of approval.
Zella High-Waisted Leggings
I have been singing the praises of Zella for YEARS. Seriously, I just can’t get enough!!
If you haven’t tried Zella, I highly recommend doing it ASAP. Their prices are cheaper than Lululemon & just as high of quality! I really recommend the high-waisted leggings ($60) because they don’t fall down & definitely suck you in. There’s nothing worse than constantly hiking up your leggings mid-sprint. I absolutely love working out with a high-waisted pair of leggings and a crop top. For reference, I’m 5’7 and get a medium.
Lululemon Align Leggings
Yeah I know I’m not the first one to say this, but I love the Lulu Align pants ($98). They are the perfect summer legging for both workouts & lounging because the material is SO breathable. It literally feels like the pants are melting onto your body. I will say they don’t really suck you in because the material does mold to your body, so if you are looking for more hold, maybe choose a different style. For reference, I got a size 6 but honestly should’ve sized down to a 4 to be more fitted.
Let’s get personal: Sports Bras
If I’m being honest, I don’t really have any issues with sports bras because there’s not much for them to support if ya know what I mean. Because of that, I can usually get away with grabbing a bra from TJ Maxx. But, for those of you looking for higher quality, there are a few sports bras that have lasted me through the years that are worth mentioning.
I like having a high neck sports bra to pair with leggings for a run outside. I am a sweaty gal, so if I don’t have to wear a shirt, you best believe I don’t. Plus, I feel like wearing a higher necked bra makes it more acceptable to wear as a shirt while also holding everything in place. Aerie has some ($20-30ish) that are super high quality and will last you throughout the year!!
I also really like the sports bras from Nordstrom. I know they are pricey, but I swear they last through countless washes (unlike my TJ Maxx $10 bras).
Don’t cheap out on earbuds
Honestly, for me, music is the most important part of a workout.
So having good quality is headphones is everything! I definitely think if you haven’t jumped on the wireless train, you NEED to ASAP! It’s a GAME CHANGER.
Everyone loves Apple Airpods, and honestly so do I. Before I got my own wireless earbuds, I would steal Pete’s Airpods for all my workouts. I was skeptical at first, assuming they would slip out of my ears and need constant adjustment, but they quickly passed all my running/jumping tests. I definitely think they are worth the cost! ($160)
Just to be #quirky I decided to try out a pair of wireless Jabra earbuds and I have to say they are pretty great too! They definitely go further in your ear than Airpods and stay still during workouts. So if you aren’t a huge fan of the fit of Apple earbuds, I would recommend these for sure! ($170)
Cheers!
