Parent's Weekend in SC, Baby

A very Forsha weekend in SC

There is nothing quite like a weekend with the rents.

Wednesday

Bean’s in Town!

With a Big Gulp of Diet Coke and Reese’s cup in hand, Peter and I hit the road to pick up Beany at CLT. I immediately felt so joyful as she filled us in on the past couple months while watching the city pass us by.

Thursday

Lots of food | Dad’s 1st time to SC

Coming home from work on Thursday with a full pantry, quite literally 4-dozen fresh baked cookies on our countertop, and penne vodka set for 3, I was ecstatic. I made sure to help myself to seconds to fuel up before heading back on the familiar drive to CLT to pick up my Dad, who  stood at the edge of the sidewalk wearing his warmest winter gear after coming from 40 degree temps back home.

I went to bed with sore cheeks from laughing so hard at his jokes that night, man I miss his jokes.

Friday

Poolside | Spartanburg

I could hardly sit still at work on Friday, knowing only 4 hours stood between me and sitting poolside with my parents. Thankfully Mother Nature was on our side, as the 90 degree sunshine warmed our skin.

Dinner that night was served at Cribb’s, a local fav, where I eagerly watched my parents sink their teeth into their first ever bites of pimento cheese balls. The widening of their eyes as the flavor sank into their mouths was the only review I needed. Our conversation bounced around the restaurant as we split our Brussel sprouts and classic southern cuisine.

No night in downtown Spartanburg is complete without a trip to Fr8yard. With our beers in hand, we found seats at the roof of this venue, watching as the rock band below swung their hair in a borderline violent manner.

By the time we left, Dad already had their album added on Spotify and bios pulled up on Google.

Saturday

Assville

Saturday was dedicated to Asheville. The endless line of boutiques and art shops were my mom’s playground. The smile across her face as we flipped through handmade birthday cards with witty punchlines was priceless.

Of course we had to make a stop into the Chocolate shop for a couple truffles because let’s face it, chocolate is my kryptonite.

If you know me well, you’d know that Mexican food really isn’t in my wheelhouse, but to appease my Dad’s love for all things burritos, I suggested White Duck Taco. We each enjoyed our unique taco combos, mine being Thai Peanut – haha aka not Mexican at all.

A movie night was in order that night as we drove back towards Spartanburg to eat Dad’s infamous popcorn & milkshakes. I think my favorite part of this evening was just laughing and chatting as a group. It felt like everyone the room was full of so much love, it was so peaceful.

Sunday

Greenville

Our last day was dedicated to Greenville, one of my favorite places down here. I finally got to walk my dad past the places that made me love this city oh so much. That feeling of knowing a place you love is loved by someone else is like the best high in the world. I love experiencing it through his eyes for the first time.

We rounded out the southern weekend with a stop at Smoke on the Water, for Dad to get his paws on some Brisket & mom some crab cakes. Just what he wanted to try while down here.

I think looking back my favorite part of the weekend was just watching the way Peter and my parents interact. Growing up with three siblings, the Forsha household was hardly ever empty, so there weren’t many times when Peter & I got one-on-one time with them. So, seeing the way that Peter and my Dad could chat forever about whatever it is boys talk about, or the way he sat with my mom asking questions about her childhood while my Dad  & I listened to the band was SO fun.

I am so thankful for this bunch of people who love me and make me feel happy. Ahh.

Cheers!
