Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is arguably in my top 3 Best Places to Visit. I literally felt like I was inside a Disney story book the entire time. All the beautiful buildings, kind people and overall coziness was unparalleled by any other city. You NEED to visit, so here’s what to expect when you do…

What to do

  • Walk the infamous Charles De Gaulle bridge and see the beautiful buildings that line the river while listening to the live music that is always ringing. Pro tip: wake up for sunrise while the bridge is empty for good views & photo ops

  • The Havelske Trziste Market is wonderful to walk around during the morning, and is a great place to pick up little souvenirs to bring home.

  • The Lennon wall is a classic place for a photo op, with spray painted words across the brick wall. Rumor has it you can bring your own spray paint, but it seemed illegal when we were there so be careful if you try.

  • One of our favorite things that we did, which was completely by chance, was the Prague Old Car Tour. We rode throughout the city in an old school car while noting the sites that we wanted to explore after.

  • Near where we stayed was the Prague castle which was a good tour to take if you are into history.

  • For those who are looking to rest their feet and enjoy a cold one, head to the Czech Beer Museum. After a very brief stroll through the “museum”, which is basically a room with some plaques, climb down into  the underground room where you are treated with complimentary beers. The $20 ticket to the museum includes a beer tasting, however it’s actually 4 mugs full of different beers. Cheers!

  • The Prague Astronomical Clock is one of the most iconic symbols of the city. Although it is somewhat underwhelming, it is a must see for all visitors.

  • You could easily spend an entire afternoon exploring Old Downtown where the streets dance with color & are full of character.

  • Go to the castle and see the cool church and changing of the guards

What to eat

  • The 7 level club: Karlovy Lazne

    • This club ended up being one of our fondest memories, since it was deserted on a weeknight we had all 5 levels to ourselves to dance the night away.

  • Hoooters: I know I know, so odd but Peter insisted I add this one. After traveling Europe we found comfort in chicken wings and french fries, so if you’re feeling homesick this is a classic stop. Underrated as FUUUUUUUQQQQQQQQQ.

  • Then there’s Cafe Savoy. We showed up to this restaurant sleep deprived and  in our pjs, not anticipating it’s classiness. Unfortunately, we quickly learned reservations were a must, and didn’t get to try it out but it’s apparently the best place to enjoy breakfast so I’m adding it to the list.

  • Skip the burger place: Fat Cat Brewery & Pub

  • Try a trdelnik, they are hard to miss as the smell of warm dough, sugar and walnut floods the air.

  • Chips at the market by the main tower thing

Where to stay:

  • The Little Quarter Hostel was PERFECT when traveling in a group of 4+ (It’s about $20 per night!)

  • Always check online for a hostel because there are plenty throughout the city

  • The city is very walkable, although taxis are available if needed

Tips:

  • Their currency is CZK

  • We took an overnight train to Prague from Budapest, I recommend booking a room with 4 beds.

XOXO
